A quarter of Korean ownership filings report no change — and 631 hide one
21,774 large-holding filings · 2,414 companies · 2024-09-09 to 2026-09-09
Anyone crossing 5% of a Korean listed company has to say so, and say so again every time the holding moves. We collect those filings. Over this window there were 21,774 of them across 2,414 companies — and the most interesting group is the one that looks like nothing happened.
- What it is — every large-holding filing in the window, tagged by what it did to the holder's stake.
- Not a register — these are events, not a snapshot of who owns what today.
- Not names — individuals appear in these filings, so we count events and never publish the person.
- Not a signal — a holder raising a stake is a fact about a filing, not a view of ours.
- Not complete history — the window starts when our collection starts.
What the filing did to the stake
| What happened | Filings | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Holder raised the stake | 8,994 | 41.3% |
| Holder cut the stake | 6,772 | 31.1% |
| Nothing moved — stake or shares | 5,377 | 24.7% |
| Shares moved, stake did not | 631 | 2.9% |
| Stake change not recorded | 0 | 0% |
The last row is zero, which is worth printing: every filing in this window carries a readable stake-change figure, so none of the counts above is standing in for a gap.
Why 631 filings move shares without moving a percentage
| Reason given in the filing | Filings |
|---|---|
| A share consolidation or split | 81 |
| A related party's dealing | 274 |
| Something else | 276 |
We sort these by keyword and say so. The reason field is free text written by the filer, in Korean, and we do not translate it into a category we then present as the filer's own words. “Something else” is 276 filings we could not place — we leave them unplaced rather than guessing.
How often a company's holders file
| Median company | 6 filings in the window |
|---|---|
| Mean | 9 — pulled up by the busiest names |
| Busiest single company | 91 filings |
| Companies that filed | 2,414 of 2,541 we scanned |
| Days with at least one filing | 487 |
The gap between the median of 6 and the busiest 91 is the whole point: ownership churn is not spread evenly, and the names where it concentrates are visible.

What the licensed file adds
This page counts events. The file gives you the rows: for each of the 21,774 filings, the receipt id and date, the report form, the shares and stake held, the change in each, the related-party holding, and the reason text as filed. It also carries 32,514 officer and major-shareholder filings, which are a separate stream from the 5% rule.
- Not a list of who owns what today. These are filings — events — not a snapshot of the register.
- Not a buy or sell signal. A holder raising a stake is a fact about a filing, not a view of ours.
- Not holder names. Individuals appear in these filings, so we count events and never publish the person.
- Not complete history. The window is what we have collected, and it starts when we started.

How we counted
| Source | DART large-holding reports (the Korean 5% rule) and officer/major-shareholder reports, collected by us through the official open API. |
|---|---|
| Window | 2024-09-09 to 2026-09-09 |
| Built | 2026-09-09 |
| Zero and blank | A blank stake-change is counted as “not recorded”, never as zero. In this window there are none. |
| Company identity | Filings are grouped by ticker, not by name, so two spellings of one company do not become two companies. |
