A broker’s target price is the price its analyst thinks a stock should reach, usually within twelve months. In Korea, most published reports carry one. Our company pages show them under each company, for example SK hynix or Samsung Electronics.
One way to read a target is against today’s price. We did that for the whole market on 29 October 2026.
The count
Our research file holds broker reports on 491 Korean companies since 29 June. For each, we took the latest target from every research firm and found the median. 315 companies had a median target and a 29 October closing price.
| Median target ÷ 29 Oct close | Companies |
|---|---|
| Below 1 (price above the target) | 0 |
| 1.00 to 1.25 | 20 |
| 1.25 to 1.50 | 83 |
| 1.50 to 2.00 | 156 |
| 2.00 or more | 56 |
| Total | 315 |
The median company’s median target was 1.63 times its price, 63% above it. The middle half ran from 1.44 to 1.87 times.
It did not depend much on the board. On the KOSPI, 215 companies had a median of 1.63; on the KOSDAQ, 100 companies had 1.62.
Even the lowest target
For 314 of 315 companies, the lowest target from any firm was above the price. The one exception was Kakao Games on the KOSDAQ: one of its three targets was below the 29 October close, though its median was still 1.07 times the price.
The three companies closest to their median target were DK Tech (1.03 times), Exicon (1.04) and Kakao Games (1.07). Each of the first two had a target from only one firm.
The largest companies
| Company | Firms with a target | Median target ÷ price |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Electronics | 12 | 2.22 |
| SK hynix | 8 | 2.23 |
| Samsung Electro-Mechanics | 8 | 2.09 |
| Hyundai Motor | 11 | 2.15 |
| LG Energy Solution | 7 | 1.43 |
| Samsung Biologics | 9 | 1.46 |
The two chip companies that make up about half of KOSPI’s market value both had median targets more than double their price.
How to read the gap
1. It is not a forecast of returns. Earlier, we checked old Korean targets against what prices later did. They were met about one time in five, and the brokers promising the most upside hit their targets least often.
2. Korean ratings lean one way. Almost every report says Buy. Over twelve years, Korean brokers issued 89 Sell calls. A target above the price is the normal state, not a signal.
3. Prices moved faster than targets. The KOSPI closed at 5,937.66 on 29 October, more than a third below the June intraday high of 9,385.59 that KB Securities cited. Targets set weeks earlier were not all revised. In our file, 88 of the 315 companies had no target newer than 30 September, and their median gap was a bit wider (1.70) than the rest (1.60).
4. Count the firms. 137 of the 315 companies had a target from just one firm. A median of one is one opinion. Among the 120 companies with three or more firms, the median gap was 1.60.
5. Look at the spread, not just the middle. After this month’s results, Samsung Electronics’ new targets ran from 350,000 to 690,000 won from eight brokers (details). The distance between brokers can be larger than the distance to the price.
Where to find them
Each company page lists the latest targets with the broker and date. Sector pages put a whole industry on one screen: semiconductors, shipbuilding, defence, batteries and biotech. No sign-up and no Korean needed.
Statistics, not advice. The gap between a target and a price is a measurement, not a recommendation.
