Korea’s third-quarter reporting peaks this week. SK hynix reports on Wednesday 28 October, Samsung Electronics’ full results come on Thursday 29 October, and the U.S. Federal Reserve decides in the same days. The KOSPI went into the week at 5,550.30 (Friday’s close, as reported by Korean wires), more than 40% below its June high.
We took the earnings calendar published by The Asia Business Daily on 25 October and checked every name against our archive of broker reports, the target-change tape.

Eight companies with nothing in the list
BNK Financial, JB Financial, iM Financial, Samsung Card, SKC, Doosan Robotics, Samsung SDI and Hanwha Aerospace drew no company report in our list for the month. That does not mean nobody covers them. The list has 12 publishers, and several of Korea’s biggest brokers are not among them. It does mean the free, public record we can count says nothing about them going into results.
Four of the eight are financial companies. The whole week’s seven financial reporters drew four company reports between them.
Where the cuts landed
Friday’s carmakers took the most cuts: two on Hyundai Mobis, one on Kia, one on APR (Mobis and Kia in detail). On Tuesday, two of four HD Hyundai Electric reports cut the target, and three of the four named the exchange rate in their title (the exchange-rate count).
The most-covered company of the week was not a memory maker. It was Samsung Electro-Mechanics, with six reports (details). SK hynix and Samsung Electronics had four each (yesterday’s count).
One thing did not vary
Of the 46 reports, 42 carried a rating. Every one of the 42 was Buy: 30 written as “Buy”, 11 as the Korean word for it, one as “Strong Buy”. The four without were three Meritz notes and one Hanwha note.
These are counts of published targets, not forecasts. This is statistics, not a view on any company.
